Jamnagar is a coastal town of Gujarat in India. It was founded by "Jam Raval" in 1540 A.D. as the capital of the princely state of Nawanagar. It was so named after the ruler who called themselves "Jamshree". The city was built around the small Ranmal Lake in the centre of which there is a small palace that can be reached by a causeway. Jamnagar is having the only Ayurvedic University in India. The old part of the town has a number of interesting buildings such as the "Darbar Gadh", "Mandvi Tower", "Jam Bungalow". Darbar Gadh was a gathering place where the Maharaja of Nawanagar used to hold public audience. Jamnagar is the home town of world famous cricketers His Royal Highness Jam Ranjitsinhji, Duleepsinhji and Ajay Jadeja. The "Bala Hanuman Temple" is listed in the Guiness Book of World Records for the continuous enchanting of "Ram Dhun" since 1st August 1964. Jamnagar is also home to all the three defence force of India. The Town is also famous for its 'Brass Pvoducts', 'Bandhani' and handicrafts.

The climate of Jamnagar varies with hot summer, cold winter and low rainfall. The evenings are pleasant due to the sea breeze from the nearby Arabian Sea.
Temperatures range is around 24ºC to 43ºC in Summer and 10ºC to 24ºC in Winter.

The state bus stand and the new railway station are several km apart and both are a long way from the centre of the city, so you will need to take an auto - rickshaw. Most of the best - available bottom - end guest houses are near the old railway station, in Teen Batti Chowk. There are a couple of more commodious cheap places near Bedi Gate. The Jamnagar Airport is situated on Khambhalia road and the distance from state bus stand is around 7 Kms. All private intercity travel buses are available near Pancheshwar Tower.
